Welcome to Sounds of Carolina!

We’re so excited to work with you. Below you’ll find our New Student Handbook, full of useful information for all new students enrolled with us.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons Students

Our Private and Semi-Private Lessons Membership Program tuition is a flat monthly fee and includes weekly lessons with a regular guaranteed time slot and teacher, participation in our Fall Fest, Winter Recital, Level Up Challenge, Spring Showcase, occasional master classes and excellent customer service support.

Bi-Weekly Private Lessons are also available upon request, subject to availability.

For Semi-Private Lessons there is a 25% up charge per additional student enrolled in the lessons and student performances must be done as a group.

What should I expect at my free trial lesson or my single lesson?

In your Free Trial lesson, you’ll have the chance to meet your teacher, ask any questions, and get a feel for their teaching style to see if it’s a good fit. The teacher may offer guidance on acquiring an instrument if needed, and if you require one for the trial, just be sure to call ahead and let us know.

For Single Lessons, it’s helpful to come prepared with a piece you're already familiar with and specific questions about technique as it relates to that piece, since the goal is to polish what you’re already working on. It’s also a good idea to record your session using a smartphone voice memo app—just let your teacher know before you do so—to review and reinforce the lesson afterward.

New students enrolled in our Membership Program will follow a timeline along these lines:

  1. Sign up for a Free Trial Lesson, either online or by calling us

  2. Login into the Student Portal

  3. Attend your Free Trial Lesson and have the opportunity to ask questions and see what it’s like

What is the student portal?

The Student Portal is a convenient tool that helps keep everything organized, allowing you to view upcoming lessons and recital assignments, self-cancel and rebook private lessons, update your student information and payment method, check your invoices, and leave messages for your teacher.

How often should I practice at home?

It’s better to practice a little every day rather than cramming in a lot on one day; our student recitals provide a welcoming environment and a valuable goal to work toward; listening to quality music recordings—regardless of genre—and attending live concerts when possible are essential for growth, with regional student discounts often available; and don’t be afraid to sing and dance freely at home, embracing uninhibited expression as a powerful tool in mastering any art form

Single Lessons Students

Single Lessons are available for those who cannot commit to a regular weekly lesson. Single Lessons are great for students who might just need a little help to prepare for an audition, school talent show, or another special performance.

Please note, Single Lessons scheduling is first come, first served and is subject to availability. Only students enrolled in our Membership Program are eligible for the amenities listed above including a free trial lesson and participation in recitals and events. Single Lessons students do not have to pay a registration fee.
